The Sundance Film Festival was a huge success. The event was terrific, featuring four days of music performances and more importantly, film screenings. Robert Redford, The Sundance Institute, Sundance Enterprises and AEG Europe held several music performances during the event after receiving support from the Sony Entertainment Network which was a presenting partner. Rufus and Martha Wainwright closed the ceremony with an intimate performance. This followed a world premiere of sing me the songs that say I love you – a concert for Kate McGarrigle, Lian Lunson’s film about music of their mother who was a folk singer.
The president of The Sundance Institute, Robert Redford mentioned that the event was a huge success because of all the support and collaborations that the institute received. This is why all the performances including film screening, music, features and documentaries became insightful and entertaining. The owner and operator of the 02 Arena also lauded the event based on positive outcome and positive reactions from musicians and those in attendance. There is no doubt that the event remains one of a kind in the UK and it added life to 02. Discussions were also held during the event. Opening proceedings were made by Robert Redford and T Bone Burnett who is a 12 time Grammy award winner.
On the first night, the Sundance London Film Festival covered documentaries, films including the Queen of Versailles by Lauren Greenfield and documentary features among other performances. However, the intimate performance by Rufus and Martha, theoretical screening of Coming up For Air, screening of Harmony about the work of HRH the Prince of Wales and screening of River’s Edge which premiered in Sundance film festival in 1987, were the four major special events. These events made the festival more colorful and an event of a lifetime. Tricky and Martina Topley-Bird also gave an electrifying performance based on the album Maxinquaye.
